January 28th, 2008 marks first death anniversary of Maestro Music Director O.P.Nayyar.

(Maestro O.P.Nayyar)
1926 - 2007
Time just flies. Exactly one year ago on January 28th, 2007, our beloved Music Director O. P.Nayyar Saab left us leaving behind hundreds of his lilting melodious tunes for giving us pleasure to all of us for all time to come. Among 4 outstanding Music Directors of 1950’s and 1960’s which are Shankar-Jaikishen, S.D.Burman, O.P.Nayyar and Naushad, my most favorite music director was O.P.Nayyar. I myself learnt a lot from O.P.Nayyar’s music. O.P.Nayyar never had any training in Music (let alone classical music) even for one day and yet he went on to become one of the Greatest Music Director’s of all times. Music just was a special Gift to him from God himself. Hats Off to O.P.Nayyar Saab.
I am also attaching below a LINK to read the Text of O.P.Nayyar’s Live Interview which was taken on June 6th, 2003 in
This LIVE Interview will give the reader an insight into lots of interesting facts in life of O.P.Nayyar from O.P.Nayyar himself. I accidentally came across this interview in internet and I was quite stunned to read it which revealed lots of unknown details clarified by Maestro O.P.Nayyar himself. I am sure readers will love to go through this interview.
This O.P.Nayyar interview throws light on OPN’s exact relationship with Lata Mangeshkar while he talks about his first ever Film : Aasman. In this interview O.P.Nayyar talks with his characteristic stubbornness. As he speaks, OPN is quite forthright and frank. In OPN’s inimitable Punajabi-Styled Hindi, he brings back to life the lost era of 1950’s and 1960’s. He also brings back countless nostalgic memories: Triumps and Torments, sex and scandal, controversies and contradictions etc.
OPN’s talk on Great Maestro Director Guru Dutt, Geeta Dutt and Waheeda Rehman is simply mind-blowing. He talks about lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi’s ego. His scolding of Geeta Dutt and Waheeda Rehman at Guru Dutt’s funeral. He talks about his famous C.I.D song “Jaata Kahan Hai Diwane” sung by Geeta Dutt. He talks with respect about Lata Mangeshkar whom he never took. OPN also talks about Mahendra Kapoor whom he calls a “Besura Singer”. He talks about Kishore Kumar’s madcap antics at recording studio and about duet “Tu Hai Mera Premdevata” sung by Rafi and Manna Dey.
OPN also talks about why he charged so less for composing Music for the superhit Film : Naya Daur (1956), produced by B. R. Chopra for which OPN got his first and last Filmfare award, although later OPN definitely desereved another Filmfare award for the extra-melodious music for the
Film : Ek Musafir Ek Haseena of 1962. Also read about OPN's breakup with Asha Bhonsle in early 1970's.
